1 1/3 cups flour
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup ground walnuts
1 stick butter
1/3 cup walnut halves
Place flour on a countertop and make a well. Separate the egg and set the egg white aside. Drop the egg yolk in the well, cover with sugar and walnuts and cut the butter in slices over the top. Quickly knead to a smooth dough. Roll out to approximately 1/8" thickness and cut rounds with a cookie cutter or glass. Lace rounds on a greased cookie sheet. Beat egg white with a fork until frothy. Brush over the rounds and place a nut half in the middle. Bake in a preheated oven at 375º for 10-12 minutes until lightly brown.
Makes about 50 cookies.
